Lottie is ready for a foster and forever home! Does anybody want a super smart and adoring Terrier and Daschund pup? My name is Lottie and I am a whole Lottie love and playfulness! I love giving and receiving attention and am a great little compadre! I am playful and smart and aim to please. I am kid and dog friendly, crate trained and housebroken too. I would do best in an active home where I am trained to fetch and hike and even do agility! I am a quick learner. I am a puppy and need plenty of chew toys for a few months while my teeth grow in. I am 4 months old and weigh approx 12lbs.

Greeting from San Antonio, Texas. My name is Mila and I am a two-year-old Jack Russell terrier blend weighing approximately 20 pounds. Myself and my five beautiful pups were at risk of euthanasia in the city shelter when care rescue found us and saved our lives. We have been an awesome foster home while I nursed my pups and raised them. Now my pups are weaned and I've been spayed and we are already for forever homes! I am a super loving, playful and intelligent girl. I am housebroken, crate trained and walk while on a leash and love to go for car rides too. If you take a chance on me I will be the most adoring and adorable forever companion you've ever had! (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 15-04-05-00322Sarge (male)|
I'm on the Joyful Spa Plan! Sarge or Sargie was born about September 5, 2006 and weighs about 5 lbs. too much at 28 lbs. He does seem to be loosing weight here and we hope to continue in that direction. He's a cute little guy that has been very sweet to all of us and he's been wonderful with the other dogs. He loves to sit with you and loves to curl up in blankets, he is house trained, good on leash and in the car. There was a blood test run in 2012 and results were fine. It seems Sarge has a seizure about every other month, meds have not been considered due to the infrequency of them. He seems to be a healthy little guy except for his weight. Five years ago he ended up on Craig's list, due to a divorce, and landed in a nice home, received vet care, but then this couple divorced and she had to work long hours with left him home alone for 12-15 hours a day. Sarge is very protective of his home so no one else could stop in and let him out. We are also told he can be territorial of other dogs, but he moved in here just fine. He has been fine with my husband and the rest of the staff, maybe he's been knocked off his high horse a bit. But, in case he tries this in a new home we don't feel there should be children and what might be best if a single person that would adore the absolute dedication, love, and protectiveness, not always a bad thing if someone is living alone. |Rescue Me ID: 15-03-25-00530Patches (male)|
Patches is a sweet, lovable Smooth Fox Terrier Mix. He had been adopted out about a month ago, but our sweet Patches was returned to our rescue through no fault of his own. We feel it is important to tell his story. Patches was adopted by a family that lives on a farm with a flock of turkeys, and we made sure prior to his adoption that the new family realized they would have to supervise and train Patches to respect and understand that the turkeys are not play things. Unfortunately, this advice was not taken to heart by all members of the family, and he was let out loose, unsupervised and with access to the flock. And, he did what almost ANY dog would do. So, yes, some of the turkeys died. Patches is not to blame for this; the ignorance or naivety of his humans is the cause; but instead of acknowledging their error and their failure to take seriously the responsibility of supervising and training a new dog, they chose instead to make Patches the scape-goat. Patches is a wonderful sweet 8 month old, neutered male who, despite this lack of responsibility on the part of some members of the family, still was trained to sit and lay down on command. He takes his treats very gently and knows where to go when it is time to eat. He is house trained and just a very lovable young man, who simply wants the chance he deserves to be a part of a warm and loving family. Since coming back to his foster home, he took about thirty minutes to get reacquainted with his foster brothers and sisters and renew his place there. He gets along with everyone, both human and canine, and loves to be outdoors running and playing in the big fenced in yard. He listens well and pays attention when spoken to. This is a young man who deserves a wonderful forever home, with people who are truly committed to him and will not turn their backs on him if he does something that any dog might do at any time. Thank you so much for your consideration of this handsome, sweet and very lovable young man who will make a great addition to any deserving family. If you are interested in adopting Patches, please register on our website www.safeatlast.net. |Rescue Me ID: 14-10-29-00684Lady (female)|
Lady was born about October 16, 2011 and weighs about 10 lbs. She is one incredibly gorgeous little girl. Every mill dog does best going into a home with another 'normal' dog. A woman that has befriended a group of millers in central New York has promised to see nothing, hear nothing, and say nothing as long as the millers hand dogs over to her once they are through with them instead of killing them. She then distributes the 'used' dogs to rescues and sends many here. This group was only marginal fearful of us, so not too bad. In this load the fur wasn't too bad compared to what we've seen, but the adult dogs had normal mill dog teeth where you can't see any white at all and when you check the teeth your fingers smell like you've just put them inside a rotting carcass. They will be getting dentals, but a single dental doesn't undo the damage done for so many years and will need to be done on a rather regular basis until the teeth are all gone or the erosion ceases from your good care. We will be working on house training, but surely you will have work to do in this area and we have wonderful notes to help you. These are notes that have had the best success with mill dogs. So, if I've not deterred you by this, brutally honest, depressing description by now and you still feel that you want to help one of these dogs and experience the magical joy of watching one of them decide they can love a human and become a real dog or as real as they will ever become, go ahead and e mail and ask us to send you our 'Working will Mill Dog Notes' and we will be happy to do so. Adopting one of these dogs is not so much about you as it is about the dog, it is an amazingly unselfish thing to do. You will be rewarded in the long run, but it may take awhile. Special thanks to Sara Stegner Lehner for donating $50.00 to Joyful Rescues in order to give Lady a name...something she's never had until now! (Less)

|PIease Read Before Adopting a Fox Terrier in New York|
Fox Terrier Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. Fox Terriers have been around for centuries and have been bred to produce a number of different types of dogs. Today, Fox Terrier generally refers to either a Smooth or Wire-haired variety, which are virtually identical with the exception of their coats. Fox Terriers are playful, affectionate, scrappy little dogs. Fox Terriers get along well with children and can typically be socialized to interact well with other dogs, although they have been known to pick fights with much larger canines. Fox Terriers may hunt non-canine pets, especially birds. This breed needs plenty of exercise and should be kept on a leash or in a fenced yard because of its tendency to chase and explore. Fox Terriers can live in an apartment if they get enough exercise.
