Rescue Me ID: 14-10-19-00310Rachel Elizabeth Bon (female)

Fox Terrier Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

The Bonadio Group, 171 Sully's Trail, Pittsford, NY sponsored the transport that brought 40 dogs north out of a high kill pound in TN. How high kill???? Well, while Katie was busy making the very difficult choices she has to make down there, she accidentally entered the wrong door and there was Emma a healthy, young, medium sized, black girl who was on a table, tail just a wagging not minding that her arm was being shaved, while enjoying all the attention she was getting from a couple of the staff. Little did she realize that the needle that was now 2 inches from her arm was going to stop her heart from beating and her tail ... (Read More)would never wag again. The procedure was STOPPED and Emma was immediately loaded in the truck! We also took George who was next in line because they couldn't afford to treat him and he was painfully thin. We are working on George and hope that it is only worms and we'll be able to make him better. He is one really sweet boy and we love him already. We also took a pretty, really sweet, Cocker named Sammy who has massive ear infections, one eye is turned rather inside out and the other looks odd so he will need some very special vet care, but we have him in the best foster home for the blind and he's happy as can be. There are 37 others with their own stories, but these are the three heart breakers so far. The staff at his shelter do the best they can and truly love these dogs but their resources are incredibly limited. Thank you Bonadio Group, an accounting, business and financial services firm providing audit, tax and business consulting services, for making this trip, which runs about $800.00, possible!!!!! All dogs from the south are heart worm tested, but they cannot be tested until they are about 6 months old. So, if you choose a puppy from this group you must keep that puppy on heart worm 'preventative' at least through it's 7th month just in case it is carrying the larvae. Introducing the Bonadio Seven!!!!! This litter of pups may be the cutest ever!!! We have no idea what Dad was, but Mom is a short haired terrier kind of thing that weighs about 35 lbs. However, six of the pups look very much like wire haired terriers and one of the pups looks a lot like a Shih Tzu. So, Mom's genetics really don't seem to have played much of a part is these little cuties. As for ultimate weight some pups are twice as big as others so I'd have to guess they will be between 15 lbs. and 35 lbs. like Mom. Their birth date is approximately June 5, 2014. Special thanks to Mary Hannon for donating $50.00 to Joyful Rescues in order to name this gorgeous girl Rachel Elizabeth! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-13-00701Belle (female)

Fox Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Belle was born about February 15, 2006 and weighs about 10 lbs. She is wonderful with the other dogs, but is a little shy of us humans. She is getting better, and more trusting, every day. Every mill dog does best going into a home with another 'normal' dog so they learn how cool us humans really are and not to be timid of all the new things they need to learn in life. A woman that has befriended a group of millers in central New York has promised to see nothing, hear nothing, and say nothing as long as the millers hand dogs over to her once they are through with them instead of killing them. She then distributes the 'used' dogs to ... (Read More)rescues and sends many here. This group was pretty happy to be here from the beginning and fell in love with us humans quickly. We will be working on house training, but surely you will have work to do in this area and we have wonderful notes to help you. These are notes that have had the best success with mill dogs. Adopting one of these dogs is not so much about you as it is about the dog, it is an amazingly unselfish thing to do. You will be rewarded in the long run, but it may take a bit of time for them to adjust. She's a real sweetie, do you love her eyes??? (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Fox Terrier in New York
Fox Terrier Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. Fox Terriers have been around for centuries and have been bred to produce a number of different types of dogs. Today, Fox Terrier generally refers to either a Smooth or Wire-haired variety, which are virtually identical with the exception of their coats. Fox Terriers are playful, affectionate, scrappy little dogs. Fox Terriers get along well with children and can typically be socialized to interact well with other dogs, although they have been known to pick fights with much larger canines. Fox Terriers may hunt non-canine pets, especially birds. This breed needs plenty of exercise and should be kept on a leash or in a fenced yard because of its tendency to chase and explore. Fox Terriers can live in an apartment if they get enough exercise.
